ABOUT MIMI

The Lineage of MIMI

Mimi was born from a singular intention: to reintroduce the heart of Europe’s iconic neighborhood brasseries to Sarasota. Here, hospitality is warm and personal. The food is comforting and crafted with care. The wine tells stories. The cocktails carry history. And the service always feels like home.

Named after Mila’s nickname and inspired by the owners’ former restaurant, Mimi la nuit in Montreal, our brasserie blends continental charm with 1920s allure and a whisper of coastal Florida warmth.

We believe in a simple philosophy: hospitality that feels personal, not scripted; food that comforts rather than complicates; wines with true character; cocktails rooted in tradition; and a pace that invites you to stay awhile.

The Team Behind MIMI

Behind Mimi is a team bound by a shared belief in genuine hospitality, thoughtful craft, and the timeless charm of European dining. Each member brings their own story, passion, and expertise to the table, creating an atmosphere where every guest feels welcomed, cared for, and invited to stay awhile. Together, they shape the soulful, unhurried experience that defines Mimi.

Edward Zaki

Eddie’s concept for Mimi is rooted in a lifelong belief: that the most authentic hospitality creates the most memorable experiences. Alongside Mila, Bethany, and Anthony, he brings a proven track record from successful ventures, including the iconic Montreal restaurant Chez Victoire, and Sarasota favorites Lucky 8 and 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen and Cocktails.

As Mimi’s anchor, Eddie imbues the brasserie with his core philosophy: simple, thoughtful, and generous. He envisions the space as a neighborhood living room—where every detail is designed to encourage guests to settle in and stay awhile.
His passion lies in the feeling of the space—the golden glow, the personal service, and the lively energy that pulses from the brasserie through to the hidden speakeasy. Mimi is his love letter to special memories, ensuring every guest feels the warmth and timeless charm of Montreal gastronomy and European dining.

Bethany Melendez

I’ve always believed that wine is one of the most exciting ways to explore a city — through its flavors, the people who make it, and the stories it tells. My love for wine has grown through travel, tasting my way across regions, and discovering small producers who pour their passion into every bottle. For me, wine is about connection, curiosity, and the joy of sharing something genuine. I’m thrilled to bring that sense of adventure and fun to Sarasota, and to create a space where wine feels approachable and inspiring, not intimidating.

At Mimi, our wine philosophy celebrates small growers, honest craftsmanship, and a spirit of discovery. Each dish is thoughtfully paired to highlight balance and place, creating moments that feel both humble and special. Our Port list in the speakeasy pays tribute to Portugal’s timeless influence — a nod to tradition, exploration, and the beauty of slowing down with a glass in hand.
